STANDARDS LABS PURPOSE: Standards Lab sessions are to be utilized as opportunities for academic intervention. The name “Standards Lab” encompasses the many facets of the learning process. There are a multitude of reasons as to why a teacher may assign students to a particular Standards Lab. At North, “mastery” is considered 80% or above. Reasons a Student may be assigned to Standards Lab include, but are not limited to:
ADDITIONAL STANDARDS LAB SESSIONS ON CAMPUS: There will be additional academic sessions offered throughout the year to support student success.
PURPOSE: When a teacher is listed for a “Passion Block” the focus should be to build relationships with students and explore passions. Locations on campus available to Students:
Entry Procedures:
Courtyard Guidelines: Students should remain within the Warrior Zone at all times. This zone has been marked. The courtyard is a NO food/drink area. Please note that there may be times that the courtyard is off limits (i.e. testing). This will be communicated to students if and when this occurs. Food/Drink on Campus:
Lack of a Schedule Via Flextime Manager: Any student with an incomplete schedule by the deadline in the morning will be assigned to Poor Choice during P.O.W.E.R. P.O.W.E.R. Attendance: Teachers will take attendance within the first 15 minutes of each POWER session through Flex Time Manager. Once attendance has been taken there should be NO students roaming the hallways or moving locations. Tardy Policy: We will be enforcing a lock out policy in regards to tardy students during POWER sessions. Once the final bell has rung, teachers will close their door and turn any late students away. Any student not in his/her assigned Standards Lab at the by the 5 minute bell or assigned Passion Block by the 10 minute bell MUST report to Poor Choices. Once POWER has ended there is no excuse for students to be tardy to their 4th block class. If a student arrives to 4th block tardy (s)he will be marked tardy and will receive an administrative consequence. Hall Sweeps: Hall monitors will be sweeping halls immediately after the final POWER bell has rung. Students out of place will be sent to Poor Choice where additional consequences will follow depending on student and scenario. During each POWER Block, the halls should remain CLEAR and quiet. There should be NO ONE in the halls until the transition time. Restroom Policy: No student should go to the bathroom during a Standards Lab session. The time is so short and information so vital that time should not be missed. Students may use the restroom during open/club activities only following the 10/10 rule (not during the first 10 min OR last 10 min of session). Teachers must give students a restroom pass in order to avoid being swept up in the hall and sent to Poor Choice. Skipping: Students found skipping any P.O.W.E.R. session they registered for, will receive additional consequences including: poor choice room, lunch detention, ISS and/or parent contact. Disruptive Students: If a student enters your classroom space with unacceptable behavior, (s)he will be removed and sent to Poor Choice. Additional disciplinary action, including loss of privilege will be determined by Administration. |
P.O.W.E.R. Discipline Procedures:
- Poor Choice Room- Students who are swept in the halls due to not being in a designated area at the bell sound will remain in the Poor Choice Room for the remainder of the POWER Block.
- Lunch Detention- Students who choose to skip Standards Lab will be reassigned a makeup time and be assigned 2 blocks for Poor Choice by Ms. King. Skipping Poor Choice and a 2nd offense will result in one week of Poor Choice. Subsequent offenses will be determined by Administration. Students must remain in Poor Choice at all times. Lunch will be brought to them.
