RESTROOM PASSES
Students have ample time to use the restroom before 8:05 am, within the five minute class change between classes, during lunch, and at the end of the day. Teachers will allow restroom breaks during class time in emergency situations only. Teachers should only use official school hall passes that document the time, destination, and date on them. Additional bathroom requests will require the student to provide documentation from a physician. No students should be allowed to use the restroom or enter the hall the first 15 and last 15 minutes of the period.
HALLWAY MOVEMENT
We will honor a 15/15 rule. The first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes are considered "dead time" for hallway use. No student will be allowed to leave the classroom for any reason, except in an emergency. All students must possess an official hallway pass when moving outside of the classroom during designated class times. Official hall passes will be provided by the front office.
CLASS TRANSITIONS Students are to be held in classrooms until the bell rings. Do not allow students to stand in the doorway. Do not release students early. Every teacher is expected to be present in the hall during all class transitions! It is the duty and responsibility of the teacher to maintain orderly and quiet hallways. It will be considered a reflection on the teacher’s management of student behavior.
INSTRUCTIONAL DATA NOTEBOOK
Each staff member will keep a virtual Instructional Data Notebook (located in survival folder) that will include daily lesson plans, student assessment data, and parent contact logs.
Board Essentials
Post objectives/essential question in student-friendly language (i.e. “I can” statements), agenda, and date on the board daily.
BELL-TO-BELL INSTRUCTION
Instruction should continue until the end of each block. Engage in a meaningful closing to each class; perhaps sharing most impactful moments, completing a “plus/delta” or reflecting with your students to debrief the day or week.
SPECIAL CLASSROOM LEARNING EXPERIENCE
If you have planned a special learning experience for your students, please inform administration at least a day in advance; we would love to document and share your events! Remember that a guest or classroom volunteer must complete prior approval before entering classroom (see admin).
EMERGENCY LESSON PLANS
Each teacher is expected to have a contingency plan that could be used on any given day in the event of an emergency prepared, and submitted to Ms. Joyce no later than August 20, 2021 for the first semester and Dec. 2, 2021, for the second semester. Emergency lesson plans should be placed in the goldenrod envelope with all of the contents. Additional information that a substitute would need, such as a schedule of your classes, teacher’s duty schedule, class rosters, seating charts, classroom and school discipline plan, etc. should be included. These plans will be used in case of an emergency only. Also, make sure you include your crisis plan procedures and intervention assignments. Emergency lesson plans are not for regular staff absences and will not be used for regular absences.
ABSENCE OF THE PRINCIPAL
When it is necessary for the principal to be away from campus, the assistant principal will act on her behalf. The assistant principal and the office manager will know of the principal’s location and how to contact her.
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
The use of community resources is strongly encouraged. In your planning, try to utilize the talent that is available from within our community. Please secure the appropriate form from the office. The completed form should then be submitted to the principal for approval at least 3-5 days in advance.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
PR: Perception is Reality. What people perceive is what they believe, and this is based on what they hear, see and think. North Edgecombe High School is as effective as the public perceives it. It is the responsibility of all faculty, staff, and administrators to serve as positive public relations agents for North Edgecombe High School. A positive image should be projected to the public at all times.
ASSEMBLIES
All students will be eligible for all assemblies. It will be the responsibility of the teacher to prepare their classes for assemblies. Positive and courteous behavior is expected and anything less should be handled as a disciplinary matter. Each class will enter the gym and sit in the designated area of the bleachers. Teachers are expected to sit with their students. All teachers should be present to help supervise all assemblies and encourage appropriate behavior. During pep rallies, students are expected to remain on the bleachers until directed by the teacher.
